Roman Day :February 25th 2008

On Monday 25th February class three were visited by Roman experts from a local history group. We all dressed up as Roman soldiers, slaves, rich ladies, Celts or even Queen Boudicca! The morning started with a talk about why the Romans invaded so many countries and the lifestyle of the Celts who lived in Britannia. We learnt about Boudicca’s revolt as well as all the interesting things the Romans invented…many of which we still use today. There were lots of interesting artefacts to look at and talk about. We all had a quiz to complete with clues around the room. After break we played a Roman game called Delta and learnt how to march in the Tortoise formation.
In the afternoon, some of us played some Roman style music while Gladiators were chosen to entertain us.We learnt lots of new things about the Romans and had a fun-filled day.Well done to everyone for dressing up and many thanks to parents, grandparents, etc for your help with costumes. It was a great and memorable day.

Trip To Colchester Castle Monday 3rd March 2008

We travelled to Colchester on a coach and a minibus with Class 2 who were visiting the Toy Museum.First we went on a tour of the Roman Foundations underneath the castle with a guide. She showed us what the Celt Round Houses would have looked like and how the invasion of The Romans changed the lives of the Celts living in Brittania.
We learnt lots of facts. We looked at a model of Claudius’ Temple and talked about what happened during Boudicca’s Revolt. After the tour we looked around the museum before having lunch. We were able to try on some armour, a toga and some masks. There were lots of artefacts to feel. The mosaics were large and colourful.
Before coming home we went to the Gift Shop and bought souvenirs of our trip.
